As the EU bank, the European Investment Bank is committed to the European Union’s principle of "United in Diversity." This publication gives an overview of the Bank’s significant progress towards the objectives of its 2018-2021 Diversity and Inclusion Strategy, up to the halfway point of the strategy's implementation.
Our strategy is based on three pillars:
- We protect equal opportunities and the rights of all employees
- We create impact by building an inclusive work environment
- We invest in our existing and new employees
“Now more than ever, we need to adapt swiftly to continue delivering in an unprecedented context. The diversity of our staff is key to developing innovative ideas, ensuring a holistic view and benefiting from the full range of experiences and competencies.” Maj Theander, EIB Director General, Personnel
Events and programmes in 2019
We constantly work towards becoming a centre of diversity and inclusion excellence. In 2019, the Bank participated in several awareness-raising events and programmes in 2019, including: the Luxembourg-based Leaders of Tomorrow Forum, the meetings of the International Dual Career Network, the annual meeting of Ubuntu – the Multilateral Development Bank Forum on Diversity and Inclusion, and others! We strengthened our relations with UNDP Women and a number of International Financial Institutions on matters pertaining to gender and diversity. In-house, we were honoured to welcome the Luxembourgish Prime Minister Xavier Bettel on IDAHOT day, we held keynote events to celebrate the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the ConnectedWomen Network held its annual Woman For the Future Award and we celebrated Diversity Day with a visit by the Luxembourgish Minister for Family Affairs. All in all, an eventful year in the EIB’s Diversity calendar!
