La ville et ses environs : une région riche en découvertes
Le Luxembourg est un petit pays, mais il offre un large éventail d’activités à une distance raisonnable du centre-ville. Dans la capitale, depuis l’enceinte médiévale du Grund et les rives de Clausen, vous pouvez facilement rejoindre à pied les quartiers plus dynamiques du plateau du Kirchberg, où se situent les bâtiments de la BEI.
Vous pouvez découvrir les plus beaux sites naturels du Luxembourg à pied ou à vélo. Un court trajet en voiture vous permet de vous rendre dans la région du Mullerthal, la « petite Suisse luxembourgeoise », où vous pouvez parcourir, à pied ou à vélo, une centaine de kilomètres de sentiers qui sillonnent, en plein cœur de la forêt, d’étranges formations rocheuses et des châteaux anciens.
Et si vous souhaitez explorer davantage, la Lorraine et l’Alsace, avec leurs routes des vins et leur patrimoine historique, se situent juste de l’autre côté de la frontière. La plus vieille ville d’Allemagne, Trèves, et les Ardennes belges sont autant de destinations parfaites pour des excursions d’une journée.
Le reste du continent est aussi à votre portée depuis l’aéroport de Luxembourg-Findel. Facilement accessible, il vous permet de rejoindre la plupart des grandes villes européennes.
Climate: Luxembourg’s green ambitions
The EIB’s climate ambitions are aligned with those of our host country. In fact, a collaboration between the government and the Bank – the LU-EIB Climate Finance Platform – aims to finance innovative high-impact investment projects in the fight against climate change and increase the leverage effect on private sector investments by mitigating the financial risks of private investment partners. On the ground, the country’s climate ambitions are very visible.
Luxembourg City has adopted a modern approach to waste management as part of its environmental action plan and has put in place a set of measures aimed at reducing energy consumption (particularly of fossil fuels) and climate impacts. Since 1 March 2020, public transport in Luxembourg is free throughout the country and for all modes of transport - trams, trains and buses. This, along with Luxembourg’s growing network of cycle paths, provides the perfect opportunity for staff to embrace the EIB’s commitment to climate and leave their cars at home!

Ancrés dans la culture et l’histoire, la ville et le pays regorgent de cinémas, de théâtres et de salles de concert, comme la Philharmonie pour la musique classique et contemporaine ou Den Atelier pour les concerts de groupes de rock internationaux. On y trouve également un grand choix de magasins et des bars en tout genre, où la communauté internationale se retrouve autour d’un verre après le travail ou le week-end.
Vous trouverez toujours des événements intéressants à la Rockhal, à LuxExpo et aux Rotondes. Et les occasions de faire la fête ne manquent pas non plus, notamment dans les nombreux bars et clubs du centre historique, de Clausen ou du Grund.

Luxembourg for children: education and fun
Luxembourg is a perfect place to raise a family. Luxembourg offers a wide variety of both private and public schooling options: the European School, which is free of charge for EIB children aged 4 to 18; the International School of Luxembourg, St. George’s International School, Lycée Vauban and the local schools, where children are taught in three languages (Luxembourgish, French and German). There are also a few public international schools offering classes in English.
For your grown-up children, Luxembourg has a university with three faculties (Science, Technology and Communication; Law, Economics and Finance; Language and Literature, Humanities, Arts and Education) and over 6 200 international students.
This safe country is full of surprises for children of all ages – from museums offering regular activities for kids, like MUDAMINI; or concerts for children at the Philharmonie; to sports activities and natural parks full of animals, such as the Escher Déierepark – your children will discover an environment full of activities where they can grow up in peace.
