The EIB signed it first operation in Algeria in 2007 with a loan to the Algerian Fruit Juice company. Since then, we have invested EUR 2.1 bn in the energy, water and industry sectors as well as into key infrastructure, including the Port of Bejaia. We have provided finance and technical assistance to build several sections of the East-West motorway and to increase its safety. We are ready to support further strategic investments and implement the shared Partnership priorities of Algeria and the European Union. Lebanon also benefits from EIB support through the Economic Resilience Initiative (ERI). The EUR 265m Lebanon Private Sector Support project under ERI will contribute to the sustainable growth of the economy and help build the country’s resilience to cope with the refugee crisis. At the Cedre conference 2018, the EIB pledged EUR 800m of financing by 2020 to support the government’s investment plan.
