[Slovakia is an important contributor to EIB trust funds, providing valuable support and assistance to development projects in the Western Balkans and the EU's Southern Neighbourhood.]
Slovakia is one of the EIB’s newest trust fund contributors. In 2017, the country pledged a total of €2 million to the Economic Resilience Initiative Fund (ERIF). The ERIF aims to mobilise investment and build resilience for economies in the EU’s Southern Neighbourhood and the Western Balkans regions. Most recently, Croatia made a contribution to the EU for Ukraine Fund (EU4U) in order to support the country's recovery and reconstruction.
Donor partnerships provide an effective vehicle for donors looking to deliver sustained impact in developing countries. They enable donors to work with the EIB to unlock projects with high socio-economic returns, reaching out to people and places with additional support for targeted development outcomes. EIB activities outside the EU account for around one third of EU development aid. All contributions to EIB donor funds are considered Official Development Assistance (ODA) eligible.
