EIB issues euro (EUR) benchmark bonds under its Euro Area Reference Notes - EARNs - Programme. Thanks to EIB's ownership by the EU sovereigns, EIB bonds offer top quality diversified sovereign class exposure. The bank provides EARN benchmarks in a wide range of maturities in highly liquid sizes (typically in the range of EUR 3-5bn). As such EARNs provide a leading complement to EU sovereign bonds, and are traded alongside sovereign securities on the leading platform Euro-MTS.
EIB's EUR benchmarks have typically offered a yield in excess of core AAA-rated EU sovereign bonds. Secondary market performance and relatively low volatility of EIB EUR benchmarks have been additional attractions for investors.
EIB has typically issued at least two new EUR benchmarks per year. It has also conducted taps on a selective basis, in order to inject liquidity or to meet specific investor demand.

In EUR, the EIB also issues ECoops which are seen as complementary to the EUR benchmark transactions, for more information see ECoop issuance.
