  • In 2012, the EIB provided loans totalling EUR 5.16 billion in Germany, giving top priority to supporting knowledge economy and environmental projects. Energy generation from renewable sources, especially offshore wind power, was also a key target. The Bank likewise focused its lending on the areas of industrial research and development, infrastructure and urban development and regeneration, especially in the water sector. In 2013, the emphasis will continue to be placed on furthering investment in renewable energies (mainly offshore wind power), power grids, data networks, energy efficiency and research, development and innovation. In its financing of infrastructure projects in Germany, the EIB will continue to rely heavily on public private partnerships.
