  • Following parliamentary elections in the Republic of Latvia, a new Government has been formed and Mr Jānis Reirs was appointed Minister for Finance. He also becomes EIB Governor for Latvia, succeeding Mr Andris Vilks.

    Before his appointment in the government, Mr Reirs was a member member of the Latvian Parliament since 2010. During that period he held various positions including that of Chairperson of the Budget and Finance Commission.

    Between 2004 and 2006, Mr Reirs was Minister for Special Assignments – Electronic Government Affairs.

    Since 2002, he has been serving as President of the Baltic Assembly, Head of the Latvian delegation and Presidium Member of the Baltic Assembly.

    Between 2001 and 2002, he was Chairperson of the Board of the chemical plant Spodrïba PLC and between 1999 and 2002, Partner at Prudentia Ltd. From 1996 to 1999 he was a Member of the Board of Trasta komercbanka PLC.

    Mr Reirs holds a Master’s Degree in Economics from the University of Latvia.
