By letter dated 10 December 2015, the Commission nominated:

• Mr Gerassimos Thomas (Deputy Director-General, Directorate-General for Energy (ENER)) for appointment as a Full Member of the Board of Directors of the EIB, to succeed Mr Maarten Verwey, who has tendered his resignation.
• Mr Benjamin Angel (Finance Director, Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs (ECFIN)) for appointment as an Alternate Member of the Board of Directors of the EIB, to succeed Mr Walter Deffaa, who has tendered his resignation.

By letter dated 10 December 2015, the Board of Governors was invited to vote on the proposed appointment.

The decision to appoint Mr Gerassimos Thomas and Mr Benjamin Angel was taken on 28 December 2015, the date on which the requisite majority of Governors' votes was reached.

The terms of office of Mr Gerassimos Thomas and Mr Benjamin Angel will expire in 2018 at the end of the day either of the Annual Meeting or of the approval of the financial statements for the previous financial year, whichever is the later.
