  • Following the UK general elections, Mr George Osborne was appointed Chancellor of the Exchequer on 12 May 2010, succeeding Mr Alistair Darling, and thus also becomes EIB Governor for the United Kingdom.

    Born in 1971, Mr Osborne graduated in Modern History from Oxford University.

    He has been Member of Parliament for Tatton since 2001.

    Before becoming Shadow Chancellor in 2005, he served as Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Shadow Work and Pensions Minister and Shadow Economic Secretary, as well as sitting on the Public Accounts Select Committee.

    From 1997 to 2001, Mr Osborne worked for the Conservative Party as a speech writer and Political Secretary.

    He was Special Advsier at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food from 1995 to 1997.

    After a short spell as a freelance journalist, he joined the Conservative Research Department in 1994.
