On 14 November 2011, the Council of the European Union prohibited the EIB to make any disbursement or payment under or in connection with existing loan agreements with Syria and suspended all existing technical assistance service contracts for sovereign projects located in Syria in view of the continued repression and violation of human rights by the country’s government.
