[Stakeholder Workshop: Technical exchange on climate action at the EIB and CSO views on increased ambition for the next decade]

Seo Description

[The European Investment Bank (EIB) has been at the forefront of the efforts to address the climate emergency, in line with the EU’s climate leadership. In 2015, we pledged to provide USD 100 billion for climate action projects in the five-year period to 2020. We are delivering on that target. Indeed, since 2016, the EIB has invested approximately USD 71 billion into climate action projects [1]. In 2018 alone, we invested more than EUR 16 billion in such projects. This has made the EIB Group one of the world’s largest multilateral provider of finance for projects supporting these objectives. ]

This workshop provides an opportunity for Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and other stakeholders to exchange with EIB’s climate change experts on the implications of the Bank’s commitment on being the EU’s Climate Bank and for our financing activities being Paris-aligned by end of 2020.

More specifically, the workshop has the following objectives:

  • Develop a better understanding on the main building blocks of a Paris-alignment approach and their linkages with the EIB’s strategic framework for climate action;
  • Present the Bank’s recent progress on climate action and gather CSO’s insights on directions for the post-2020 period; and
  • Discuss options and additional elements that will help inform the Bank’s action on climate change and environment sustainability beyond 2020.

The technical dialogue will be split into two parts: (1) a policy-oriented exchange on recent international developments and science related to climate change and their potential implications for the EIB, and (2) a technical discussion on the implications of becoming ‘Paris-aligned’ by end 2020. This is a by-invitation-only event. If you want to learn more about outcomes of the discussions at the workshop, please contact the EIB Civil Society Division by mail to civilsociety@eib.org.
